Welcome

Rather than cluttering up STS academic jobs wiki, simply post all textual information here. Basic rules apply - don't name names, including yourself; be respectful of others; let's all be careful out there.

Thanks for this. Could people please include the date and mode of communication (phone, letter, email) when positing to the wiki.

Does anybody read this? If so, any rumors about the UCSD job? Are they looking for a junior or senior hire?

Re: UCSD

My understanding is they are looking for a junior hire.

Any news on the RPI search? Long list, short, etc.?

Anonymous said...

My letter from RPI said that they will meet in late Dec., and invite candidates in Feb-April 2007.

About the UCSD job, have they done anything on applications yet? I know the application deadline was in October.

Re: UCSD

The deadline was pushed back to 12/1. Perhaps the previous poster about this job knows something more.

Has Virginia STS (not VA Tech) invited candidates?

Re: UCSD

If you are talking about the history of life sciences search, they have already had three on-campus interviews. I'm not sure who got it.

re: UCSD

The 12/1 deadline refers to the sociology job.

Does anyone have information on the South Carolina search?

Both VTech and UVirgina have invited folks for on-campus interviews for late January, I believe.

Why did someone cross out the UC San Diego (Sociology) job, which differs from the history of life sciences announcement? Did the school cancel their search or is there some other information?

Does anyone know anything about the Cornell postdocs?
Thanks.

Anyone have news on the RPI search?

Anonymous said...

Are there no more rumors?

I know that many of us are eager to hear news about the RPI job, but I don't think it will move the process along to edit the wiki page with requests for news. I find it actually raises my anxiety to see these edits appearing, and we all need to try to stay as relaxed as possible under such ridiculous conditions.

The rumor on the sociology board is that the Cornell Contentious Politics postdoc has contacted its short list candidates.

Does anybody have information on the status of Georgia Tech's search/searches? Are the S & T Policy and the S, T & International Affairs listings on the wiki different positions?

Received email rejection letter today from UCSD Soc of Sci search.

So what's the story with the UCSD search? Given the have reposted the search, what do they say in the rejection letter?

Anonymous said...

With great (unintended) irony, the UCSD rejection letter spoke of the oustanding applications that they had received. I think it's insulting to say that three days after re-posting the job; better to be somewhat honest and just tell applicantst that their qualifications/interests did not match the needs of the department at this time.

To the above comment:

I agree that the rhetoric can be hard to swallow, and these decisions certainly have very little to do with qualifications. I bet everybody reading this blog is qualified to be at UCSD. However, there are usually very intense politics going on, or it could simply be a "fishing" expedition.

Does anyone know if the invitations for campus interviews for RPI are for both positions?

Anonymous said...

A colleague of mine was invited for a campus visit to interview for both advertised positions; so I assume they have made the calls/emails for both searches.

Anyone hear anything from the New School on their Assistant Prof / Assoc Dir. in the history and philosophy of science?
